Why This Place Matters

The presiding deity temple of Kurukshetra, Lord Shiva in his Sthaneshwar form has blessed this land since ancient times. This is considered the spiritual heart of the entire Kurukshetra region and one of North India most revered Shiva temples.

Mahabharata Connection

Lord Krishna and the Pandavas worshipped Lord Sthaneshwar before the Mahabharata war. It is believed that the Pandavas established this Shivalinga and performed elaborate rituals here. The name Thanesar (Sthaneshwar) comes from this very temple - meaning Lord of the Place.

Ancient Puranic temple mentioned in Vamana Purana and Mahabharata
